sustainability policing
many agencies, governments, consortiums are working hard to improve the fashion industry’s. determining legitimacy and enforcement is impossible for any consumer. below are a list of the most commonly seen from popular brands.
what is actually sustainable
-
circular ecosystems
creating a closed loop ecosystem, where textiles, fabrics and other inputs are both created from a non-virgin source and recyclable at the end of their life.
-
non synthetic materials
the earth was designed to break down natural materials. synthetic materials eventually end up in landfills, even if recycled/upcycled to new products. run off and micro-plastics enter the water system via washing machines and decomposition.
-
recycled vs recyclable
some materials can be broken down and reused, aka recycled, this often eliminates the ability for the material to decompose or be used again. asking if a product is recycled is different than recyclable.
